Rob Pearce has returned to Whitchurch Alport after spending pre-season with Winsford United and could figure in the squad for Saturday’s Cheshire League second division trip to Runcorn Town.
Alport, who then host local rivals Malpas on Wednesday (6.15pm), got their season up and running with a 4-1 beating of Maine Road at Yockings Park last weekend.
There was no stopping Andy Allmark’s side once striker Ryan Wilkinson latched onto a through ball and curled a fine shot to the top corner of the net in the third minute.
Dave Suddaby then headed wide from close range and, although Maine Road were level by half time, Alport always looked the more likely winners.
Midfielder Neil Marsh regained the lead on the hour before defender Suddaby made it 3-1 when he smashed home a low volley. There was still time for sub Lee Stephens to break down the left and add a late fourth.
“It was good to get the first three points to get us up and running,” said Allmark. “It was also nice to get the goals coming from throughout the team.
“There’s still a lot of work to do yet with a number of new players coming into the squad and they need time to settle – but this should give us confidence.”
Chris Suddaby and Phil Denson, unavailable last weekend, are both set to return to the squad to take on Runcorn.
Alport, who were due to take on Barnton last night (Wednesday), had a wasted trip to Crewe FC last midweek. The match was postponed as the referee felt the ground wasn’t up to scratch and Alport have claimed for expenses.
