We must take our chances – Allmark

Whitchurch Alport boss Andy Allmark has urged his side to be more clinical at home to Maine Road on Saturday (3pm) after a stack of missed chances proved costly in a 1-0 opening day defeat at home to Denton Town in the Cheshire League second division.

“We deserved to get something out of the game,” said Allmark. “The first half was excellent but we can’t afford to miss easy chances, which we did, and then we got punished by a deflected goal.”

Alport started well with new signing Jim Lawrence firing a trio of early chances into the side netting.

Denton came more into the game in the second half and Alport keeper Ryan Wilkinson had to make an outstanding save to turn a fierce shot over the bar.

Alport midfielder Neil Marsh almost broke the deadlock on the hour but his shot was saved, with Chris Suddaby firing the rebound off target with an open goal gaping.

It proved a key moment as Denton clinched maximum points shortly afterwards via a deflected strike.
