A row over power at Whitchurch Business Park looks sets to continue after it emerged Shropshire Council does not have the cash available to upgrade the electricity supply.
Businesses have faced numerous problems as a result of limited power supplies at the site, with some firms even considering moving their businesses elsewhere.
And north Shropshire’s MP Owen Paterson has held meetings with Shropshire Council, Scottish Power, haulage firm Grocontinental – which is also struggling with a lack of supply – and funding body Advantage West Midlands in a bid to agree a way forward.
But it has since been announced that AWM is to be dismantled by the government.
A spokesperson for Shropshire Council said: “Shropshire Council had planned to submit a grant application to Advantage West Midlands for funding to upgrade the electricity sub-station at Whitchurch Business Park, to help improve capacity at the site.
“However, following the government’s recent decision to abolish regional development agencies we are now considering other possible sources of funding for this work.”
