New start for Sunday league

The well established Wem and District Sunday League, formed in 1972, has undergone a change in identity and will now be known as the North Shropshire Sunday Football League from next season.

It’s not the only change to take place as the league’s headquarters are switching from Wem to Criftins Parish Hall.

The North Shropshire Sunday League has also applied for charter standard status. “The new league is now looking for new teams, and as an incentive the Shropshire Football Association is waiving both their affiliation fee and public liability insurance costs saving teams £104,” said secretary Roger Candlin. “The league is also pleased to report that they have gained two new teams for next season already.”

Anyone interested in joining the league is urged to contact secretary Candlin on (01691) 652609 or via email at roger_candlin@hotmail.co.uk
