Division 1
Hanwood 10 (234), Telepost 4 (195): A solid start by Hanwood with them leading 3-1 and 6-2. Ash Williams took the coppers with a 21-8 win at the start while The Posties best came from Dave Mansell with 21-13.
Ford 9 (232), Castlefields 5 (204): Ford led 3-1 with Antony Gray their top man with a 21-9 card. The Fields then revenged this in the middle with the Walker Brothers on song as Paul won 21-14 and Gary 21-15. The tractor boys then took three at the end to seal the win.
Pontesbury 9 (220), Ludlow Castle 5 (170): The returning Edwards Brothers both won but the home stars were the older stalwarts with Tony France 21-9, Clifford Evans 21-5 and Alan the “Tuzz Master” Potter 2-3, while the Castle would have been happy with five winners and had Rich Lane sweeping in 21-10.
Royal Mail 4 (178), Burway 10 (230): The Green Army are quickly on the march with this impressive win. Roy Crowther led the way with 21-1, Len Lewis won 21-7 and Claire Williams added a 21-8 while the Mailers’ best game at the end with Will Jones 21-12.
POW BL 5 (219), George 9 (225): This was a super win for the George with Terry Heaton taking the coppers 21-11 and Terry Thompson adding a 21-12. For a disappointing Prince side Ann Parrish showed the boys how to do it with 21-10.
Reman 9 (228), Battlefield 5 (193): A solid win for Reman on their return to the top flight with Andy Pullen winning the battle of the old Greenfields team mates 21-4 which was backed up by James Mamone with 21-7 while The Lions best was Martin Jones 21-13.
Meole Brace 9 (211), Prince Hotel 5 (181): A good contest with both sides playing in good spirit. Gary Neal showed his class with 21-4 and Sam Onions added a 21-10 but the Hotel’s coppers went to Graeme Wornell 21-4 while Meole had top performances by Dave Thomas and Paul Richards with 21-7 wins but the coppers went to Ian Riddell as he “hammered” his opponent 21-1.
Division 2
Bishops Castle 11 (237), Meole Village 3 (178): The Castle off to a flyer with an emphatic victory over the Villagers. Andrew Evans and Mark Evans with excellent early season form, sharing the sweep, both 21-5. Best for the Village, Alex Nesbitt 21-13.
Crescent 12 (227), Elephant & Castle 2 (182): Crescent off the blocks with this superb win, Mark Harris, Tony Rowe and Ade Spender all 21-22 to share the coppers. Dawn Owens in great form for the away side 21-4.
OSBC 10 (218), Craven Arms 4 (163): A solid home performance for the Old Shrews, Russ Lea excelling 21-1, Bill Francis 21-6, and Chris Jones 21-7. Ian Bishop best for the Arms 21-10.
Unison 11 (232), Wem BC 3 (160): A good start for Unison in this division, Phil Tyler and Les Jones leading the way, both 21-7. Mike Reeves on form for Wem 21-11.
Corbett Arms 10 (220), Reman Services 4 (187): Corbet will be pleased to start the season with a solid home performance, Graham Davies and the ever-dependable Dave Hyde sharing the sweep, both 21-9. Les Lacourse led well for the Service side to win 21-11.
Bricklayers 10 (231), Oxon 4 (170): The Brick performed well in this season opener with Mick Williams leading the way with an excellent 21-3. Neil Ashton 21-7, and Graham Jones 21-9 also had good wins. Two 21-10 wins for Oxon but Dany Powell pocketed the money 21-11.
Division 3
Bromfield 10 (239), Bagley 4 (196): Bagley found the going hard at Bromfield but managed four useful points with Kevin Heath best with 21-16. The hosts had two 21-20 winners whiles Terry Angell won perfect with 21-8.
Ifton 9 (226), Hadnall 5 (201): Ifton were hap0py to be bowling again and enjoyed a competitive match against Hadnall who had five winners, E. Garratt best with 21-12. Ifton made sure of the aggregate with big wins of 21-4 from S. Mackenzie and 21-7 from J. Jones.
Bicton 6 (199), Whittington 8 (211): Big result for Whittington with Aled Davies clinching the win with 21-5 at the back after Jacqui Whitley won 21-9 at the front. Jen Wilson was Bicton’s No 1 with 21-10.
St Oswalds 10 (225), Greenfields Social 4 (176): Four points return by the newly promoted … with Tony Parsons coppering up 21-12. The Saints had the advantage of a 21-6 from Malcolm Williams and 21-4 from Glenys .
Severnside 11 (246), Church 3 (176): A good win for the homesters on an excellent holding green as the Severnside dropped just six chalks, although it cost them three points with Graham Mansfield best visitor with 21-18. Martin Codd started off with 21-4 and Clive Jordan almost shared the sweep with 21-5.
Division 4
Monkmoor 5 (189), St Julians 9 (208): Brian Christmas 21-6 and Mark Lanning 21-7 gave the Saints a good start to the season with this away win at the Monk. Colin Prinn replied with 21-8 and Pete Mackay kept his side in the match with a 21-3 in the middle.
Worthen & Brockton 9 (222), Bicton Village 5 (190): Worthen won four games last season so will be pleased to be off the mark straight away. A 21-6 from Bicton’s Ken Barrow at the end kept the aggregate down whilst Colin Rigby took the home coppers 21-8.
Baschurch 4 (168), Harlescott 10 (219): Harlescott were quick out of the traps going 4-0 and 7-1 up before Lee Davies 21-4 inspired a late rally for Baschurch. Chris Jones 21-3 and21-9 from Terry Evans and Mike Feast did the business for the visitors.
Dorrington 4 (167), Bayston Hill 10 (227): A fairly even start with games shared and three ending 21-9, but standing out was Dave Kibbler 21-8 for the away side. Bayston Hill murdered the middle with Jane Asher and Mike Pugh 21-6, Nick Hughes 21-7 and Sam Cartwright 21-9. Games shared at the back with Dorrington’s John Childs 21-8.
Oxon Village 12 (236), New Hanwood 2 (165): Mike Bennett and Tony Burton made history for the new side with 21-13 cards to be their first point winners. Oxon went 4-0 up with Alan Edwards 21-6 and Paul Williams on his debut 21-7, and card matched by Mick Murray and John Morris.
Prince Social 10 (231), Weston Rhyn 4 (167): Good start for the Prince with Mike ‘Geengrass’ Hughes quick off the green with 21-4, closely followed by Rachel Tisdale 21-6. Wayne Holland added a 21-9 and Bob Pugh was electrifying with his 21-8. Weston Rhyn dug deep for their four points with Brian Oakley showing all his experience 21-11.
