Members of Whitchurch Waterways Trust will have a chance to vote on the future of the town’s canal at a meeting next month.
The trust’s AGM will take place at the town’s civic centre on Wednesday, March 17, at 7.30pm, when a presentation will put forward several options for the further extension of the canal towards the town.
The options include leaving the canal as it is or extending it through two bridges and creating a new basin. Other proposals include extending the canal while allowing for future expansion towards the town.
Another plan is to create a water park either linked to the canal or left as a separate attraction.
A spokesperson for the trust said: “Existing and prospective members are invited to attend the meeting to hear the presentation and discuss the options. There will then be a vote by members on which option the trust should accept.”
Information about these options have been posted on the website www.whitchurchwaterway.org.uk and people are invited to comment on them.
Outline information will be shown on the noticeboard at the arm of the canal and a folder of information will also be deposited at Whitchurch Library.
