Shoppers in Whitchurch were surprised to find themselves face to face with an enormous Tyrannosaurus Rex as they walked through the town this week.
Rexy the 15ft tall dinosaur was in town as part of a fundraising drive for the Teenage Cancer Trust, and caused a stir when he arrived outside Whitchurch Civic Centre on Wednesday morning.
Accompanied by his ‘keeper’, Lloyd Scott, Rexy is walking from Land’s End to John O’Groats in a bid to raise £500,000 during their four-week trip. More than £118,000 has already been donated.
Lloyd, 47, said: “It’s lovely doing this trip because as well as raising the profile of the charity we’re raising a lot of smiles as we go by. We can see the faces of astonishment – you don’t get many dinosaurs through here!”
And Lloyd is especially keen to help Rexy’s fundraising drive, as the charity is particularly close to his heart.
He said: “Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity very close to my heart having survived leukaemia at a young age. I wanted to do something big for the charity this year to celebrate my life saving transplant 20 years ago and you can’t get much bigger than a life-size dinosaur!”
