Long-awaited road safety measures in the centre of Wem look set to be finally introduced after a seven year wait.
Shropshire Council is proposing to introduce a 20mph zone in High Street and Aston Street in the town centre.
Suggestions for safety improvements, which included the speed limit, were first put forward in 2002. It is hoped the project will be completed and the speed limit fully in place by March 2010. Gareth Proffitt, communications officer for development services at Shropshire Council, said a meeting would be held in the middle of August, after which more details will be revealed.
