A new housing development comprising of 21 homes could be built in Whitchurch, if plans are given the go-ahead.
Proposals for a mixture of two, three and four bedroom homes and bungalows on land west of Mill Park, Waymills, have been submitted to Shropshire Council.
The plans also include an extension to an existing estate road, formation of a landscaped children’s area and erection of boundary fencing.
If plans are given the go-ahead it would mean that a badger sett might have to be relocated. In a letter to the Shropshire Council from Robin Mager of the Shrewsbury Wildlife Trust, concerns were raised about the need to relocate the badger sett and the impact on the environment.
It said: “Any proposal to relocate the badger sett should be informed by consultation with the Shropshire Badger Group.
“The brook and associated species (i.e. water voles) should be protected and ideally habitat enhanced.
“Surface water discharge to the brook should be designed to prevent possible contamination. Foul drainage may also be an issue if the development is not connecting to the main facility.”
Howard Thorne, managing director for Shropshire Homes Ltd, said: “The property market is improving and we feel there is a need for a mixture of homes to be built in Whitchurch, which is a town that is growing.
“If planning gets the go-ahead we hope to start selling the homes next year and envisage they will all be sold.”
Alan Chesters, Whitchurch mayor, said: “I am not aware of a shortage of new three and four bedroom houses, but I assume someone must think so to put in the planning application.”
The consultation period for the planning application expires on Monday, July 27.
