A village could prove to be a real catch for angling enthusiasts if plans to create a new fishing pool get the go-ahead.
Proposals to develop a new two-acre pool with up to 42 stations at The Hayes Farm, Merrington, have been submitted to North Shropshire District Council.
It will be stocked with a variety of coarse fish and will also be used in conjunction with the existing facilities at Merrington Carp Fishery.
Plans include building a new stoned access track and car parking area.
The proposed pool has already created interest from Bomere Heath Primary School, for use in conjunction with its science lessons. A club, which provides support for children with some special needs, has also expressed an interest.
Merrington Fishery has two part-time employees and the new pool will provide one additional position.
Plans are set to be heard by the council’s development control committee on January 14.
The applicant was unavailable to comment as the Chronicle went to press.
