The Chronicle’s We Mean Business campaign has won the backing of MP for North Shropshire Owen Paterson.
Mr Paterson said: “I’m a very strong supporter of local shops and I would back any campaign which would encourage people to stand by their local businesses.”
Mr Paterson said he had received letters from people worried about the credit crunch and in particular the banking crisis, but that so far in the district local businesses seemed to be surviving the economic downturn.
“I’m fully aware of how difficult the situation is going to be for businesses,” Mr Paterson added.
Mr Paterson is also a supporter of the Shop Local campaign which encourages people to support small traders in Ellesmere.
