Help give Wem cultural make-over

Resident artists are being called upon to help give Wem a cultural make-over as part of a £30,000 development which will see interpretive artworks, maps and banners positioned around the town.

The Wem Better Welcome steering group, which includes representatives from both Wem Town Council and Thomas Adams School, is calling on artists to contact them.

Projects include producing a number of themed ‘town trails’ consisting of small-scale interpretive public art and an illustrated town map identifying points of interest and town walks.

It will also lead to the creation of flag and banner designs which relate to the town’s history and contemporary culture.

All of the works will form part of an ongoing installation across prominent town centre locations.

Artists will be expected to work with local people in generating ideas and designs for the projects.

Project activity will start in January next year with the deadline for expressions of interest next week on Friday, November 14.
