A survey has found the number one reason for liking Wem – is its ‘nice friendly people’.
The survey of the market towns of the district was conducted as part of the Better Welcome project.
And the news has been welcomed by councillors who claim the findings are ‘no surprise’.
John Murray, town councillor, said: “Wem is the friendliest market town in Shropshire.
“Everyone says hello to each other and there is a real sense of community.
“Someone moved up from London recently and had been here a couple of days and said she couldn’t believe how friendly the people are.”
The survey revealed the top reasons for liking Whitchurch included the old world character and choice of shops. A Better Welcome survey was not carried out in Ellesmere.
