Tom’s epic challenge

A man whose cousin went missing in the French Alps is hoping to beat a world record while raising funds for a charity which helps reunite people.

tom4.jpgTom Beaver will be attempting the Enduro Man Arch to Arc Challenge this week in an effort to raise £10,000 for the charity Missing People in memory of Blake Hartley, the former Ellesmere College student and army cadet who went missing in 2004.

The challenge will require Mr Beaver, from Walkmills, near Leebotwood, to run the 87 miles from Marble Arch in London to Dover, swim the Channel and then cycle the 180 miles from Calais to L’Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Earlier this year he took part in the London Marathon, running in a beaver costume to promote the website he set up for the Arch to Arc Challenge.

Also this year Mr Beaver did a triple marathon, running 80 miles in 23 hours around the Dorset coast in preparation for his record attempt.

Mr Beaver said last week: “Hopefully I’ll be leaving on Wednesday but it’s weather dependent. The weather has been rubbish for swimming lately but hopefully it will be okay. I’m looking forward to it.

“My training has been going well and the fundraising is going well too. I’ve raised £4,000 so far.”

Mr Beaver should begin his challenge this morning. To follow his progress visit www.enduroman.com, or to sponsor him visit his website at www.runningbeaver.co.uk.
