Mystery of cat from Isle of Wight

Staff at a cat shelter have been baffled by the appearance of a moggy which has come 200 miles from the Isle of Wight to Wem.

The cat was brought in by a resident who thought he was feral after she spotted him living in Edstaston and managed to catch him with a cat trap.

Eve Dodds, Shrewsbury Cats Protection welfare and rehoming officer, said she thought the cat had been living rough for some time but was surprise at how tame he was.

“We couldn’t believe it when we scanned him and found out he had a microchip,” she said.

The scan revealed the cat’s name was Bo and that he was registered to an address in the Isle of Wight.

A telephone call to his registered phone number revealed the number is not registered and a letter sent to his old address also proved fruitless.

Volunteers contacted Cats Protection’s Isle of Wight branch to ask for help in tracking the owners down.

A volunteer on the island visited Bo’s address but nobody was in so they left a note and have also heard nothing.

Bo, who is 11 years old and neutered, has been described as very friendly and very vocal.

Mrs Dodds said: “We can only assume that the owner has not changed the chip details when they moved.”

Anyone who can help is asked to contact the shelter on 01939 234736.
