A popular children’s home which has served a village community for 30 years has closed its doors for good, with the building going up for sale this week.
Wheatlands Family Resource Centre in Baschurch has been put on the market for £325,000 after centre bosses relocated to Chelmaren, a former farm house in nearby Bomere Heath.
The home was owned by Shropshire County Council, but is being sold after Shirehall bosses decided the venue was becoming too expensive to maintain.
Now staff at Shrewsbury-based agents Barbers, which is selling the property, are inviting offers for corporate, commercial and residential schemes.
Anne Howls, parish clerk, said that the home had been a part of the community and it would be missed.
But she said it may bring new business into the village.
