Police crime statistics have come under fire after it was revealed murder and a spate of vandalism incidents had not been recorded in official village figures.
Jack Wilson, clerk of Shawbury Parish Council, said a number of incidents had been noted in the monthly police report to councillors, but that damage to car park security lights and attacks on the village hall had been missed off.
He also said the murders of two men above a village chip shop had not been reported in the police figures. The report is read out at monthly council meetings, which are open to the public.
Mr Wilson said: “From March 1 to 31 there were four incidents of criminal damage to the village hall, this does not include the lights damage which does not appear .
“The murders don’t appear either. How do they sort these numbers out? We can’t put an insurance claim in unless we get an incident number.
“I’ve asked the inspector to explain things to us as to why certain things never appear at the next parish meeting,” he added.
Counter clerk at Wem police station Bob Chilcott, draws up the parish report. He said: “Wem police station provides basic police information to the council.”
He added that some crimes did not appear on the report if investigations were ongoing and they had not yet been recorded.
