Plans have been announced which could see 36 new homes being built in Loppington and an established business moving out of the village.
Residents are set to meet to discuss the plans, submitted by staff at Hawkstone Developments, which include a project to create around 15 affordable homes, access roads and a village green.
The company has been based at the Grange in the village for 11 years but if the plans are approved they will build the homes on their current business site and move the company out of the village.
Loppington has a population of approximately 500 at present, and the news has prompted the parish council to organise a meeting with residents.
Loppington Parish Council clerk David Edge said: “We’re consulting with residents by holding a meeting before the end of the month. It will offer them the opportunity to give the district council their opinion of the development and discuss the application and respond to it.
“We’re in the process of setting a date for that.”
Kevin Dowell, from Hawkstone Developments, said: “It will be a mixture of homes with the required amount of affordable housing on site – around 14 or 15 – which will be 40 per cent. The houses will be three, four and five bedroom when and if we get planning through.”
Mr Dowell said that the company had not built a development in Loppington before but that they were currently building one in Childs Ercall.
He said: “We occupy the site that the houses are going to be built on, we’ll be moving out to Prees.
“I don’t know the cost of the development at the present time. We’ve had meetings prior to planning with locals, the response has been very positive.”
North Shropshire District Council’s planning authority is due to make a decision on the plans by June, which have been drawn up by Whitchurch-based architects David Owen Associates.
