A young horse rider is celebrating after being named the first winner of a new trophy.
Abi Gregory, 15, a member of the North Shropshire Pony Club, was competing on her horse Upper Crust IV. She won the award for having the highest points for dressage in a competition open to all members of the 17 pony club branches in the Midlands.
The trophy, sponsored by the horse feed company Dengi, was presented to Abi recently.
Abi, from Ellerdine Heath, who started riding when she was six, said: “Dressage isn’t my main event but I entered to get some practice in as it is part of eventing which is one of my favourite disciplines. I was really pleased to win the trophy especially as I hadn’t had Crusty that long.”
“Now I’m hoping to take part in junior eventing and tetrathlon at the nationals.” Tetrathlon is a competition which tests competitors on their ability in riding, swimming, shooting and running. North Shropshire Pony Club members were also celebrating at their AGM and presentation evening when paralympic dressage rider Ricky Belshaw gave out prizes at the event at Hinstock Hall.
