New jobs with care home extension

Work is due to start next month on a £600,000 extension to a care home in Prees which will create new jobs.

Elmhurst Nursing and Residential Care Home, Prees Wood, will increase its number of residents to 40 after an additional 14 rooms and community centre are built.

Maggie Allen, who is LDCG Care resource manager for the home, said building work for the new extension would begin in April and that the new project would create five jobs.

A statement from Elmhurst said that the existing kitchen would be extended to cater for the extra residents and there would be another large communal area.

All the rooms planned will be 20 metres square with French doors on to the garden.

They will be fully furnished with specialist beds and a colour TV.

It is also planned to decorate the rooms in neutral colours so that new residents will be able to choose their colour when they move in.

The home, which has a waiting list, also plans to introduce IT, a library, a shop and a hairdressing salon.

The site is being developed in three phases. The first stage saw an extra seven large single rooms with disabled ensuites in each, and also has a specialist bathroom, sluice room, storage area and pastoral/quiet room.

After this phase is complete bosses plan to introduce more lounge and dining space, storage space, nurse stations, reminiscence room and a bowling green.

Elmhurst is inviting people to come to the home to view the scheme on a 3D computer generated image.
