A grandmother from Harmer Hill is looking forward to an extra special Mother’s Day this weekend as she celebrates her 100th birthday with relatives from across the world.

Amy Ingram is being treated to a party at Albrighton Hall Hotel, near Shrewsbury, with her relatives including her two sons, a daughter, two granddaughters and one grandson. She will also see relatives flying over from Berlin and Hanover.
Amy was born in Welshpool on March 1, 1908, and this week she and her son have been looking back at her favourite memories.
John Ingram, Amy’s son and carer, said: “She left home at 14 for a job looking after a baby in Welshpool. Here she saw an advertisement in the newspaper and travelled to Preston in Lancashire to milk the cows and work on the farm.
“She worked there until her early 20s when she moved back to Welshpool.
“She met her husband when she was in her 20s; he was a farmer and they bought their house in Harmer Hill in 1960 for £400.”
Mr Ingram said that Amy was looking forward to seeing all her friends and relatives at her party on Saturday where there would be a buffet and plenty of music.
Mr Ingram said: “She is looking forward to her birthday.
“She has relatives coming from all over the world.
“My nephew is coming from Berlin and another relative is coming from near Hanover.”
