New offices and an extra 10 homes are to be added to a major development at a former Wem timberyard.
Development agency Advantage West Midlands, which bought the Isherwoods site in Aston Street for £2.2 million in 2002, has revealed further plans to the Chronicle this week.
Housebuilding company Morris Homes is expected to submit a planning application to North Shropshire District Council for permission to build 10 more homes on the site.
The go-ahead has already been given for 84 homes, which are expected to be completed within the next three years.
Previous plans for an enterprise park were scrapped but now AWM says that offices could be created as part of the development.
Stuart Wenman, development manager at AWM, said: “An application is to go in for more houses. Morris Homes is planning to build between 10 or 12 houses, definitely less than 14 houses.
“It shouldn’t be long now. It plans to submit the application to the council within the next four to six weeks.”
Mr Wenman said he was also in talks with another developer who was looking to build offices on the site but could not give any further details at this stage.
He added he hoped to see all of the land sold and the developments completed within the next three years.
The extra homes and offices to be added to the development have been welcomed by trader and district councillor John Murray.
He said: “I think that anything that is an extension to the town is very welcome, particularly offices.
“We need industrial space and we need jobs so offices will create jobs and I am all for it.”
No-one from Morris Homes was available to comment as the Chronicle went to press.
